Here at Ashtanga Yoga Poughkeepsie we have a beginner's class which will give you a good base for being prepared to practice in any Mysore Room across the globe.
Highlights of this beginner course are as follows:
On Saturdays AYPK has a traditional Sanskrit count led class. It is the Mysore sequence counted in a metered way, one breath one movement. This is not suited for beginners. It will depend on who is in class on whether we do half or full primary series. There will be a short talk after the session.
This class is designed to teach people who are differently abled how to practice the Mysore style. We are offering a special class as you might need a little extra help in the beginning. The goal is that soon you will be able to mainstream into the daily Mysore room fully prepared with your own practice.
In a Mysore room students arrive at their own time within the established class times. It is important to be conscious of how long it takes for your practice to finish and making sure to start finishing postures 30 min before the end of the teaching session. It is a warm, quiet room where everyone progresses through the Mysore sequence that has been taught to them over time by the teacher. When you arrive for practice set up your mat and start. The chants will begin at 6:30 in all Mysore classes.
Whether you are new to the practice, new to yoga or more advanced, we can help with yoga techniques that are right for you. Samantha is available for private sessions that will enable you to build up your own personal daily practice.
On Moon days we will keep the studio open in order to create continuity. In these classes we will start to explore Meditation techniques and Pranayama. Pranayama is the 4th limb of the Ashtanga (eight limb system), breathing techniques that will help further your practice.
